Q:

Is my penis too big?

I know this is a site for women, but I had to ask this. My penis is 8 inches long with some good girth. Some women I have been with have felt some discomfort when I'm with them, so that's why I asked the question.

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for your question and welcome to EmpowHer-- where men are welcome, too.

The average penis size is around 5 to 6 inches long (erect). So, if your penis is around 8 inches, you are well above the average and this can cause some discomfort in some women because your penis may be hitting her cervix if you have fully penetrated her.

Regardless of penis size, sensual touching is essential before penetration as it allows enough time for arousal as well as vaginal lubrication. For some women, a dab of water-based lube can make a huge difference. Different positions sometimes help, too. For example, if your penis is on the larger side, woman on top may not be the most comfortable position for her.

Some people feel more comfortable with partial insertion during oral, anal, and vaginal sex.

As you experiment and play, tell one another how you feel, what is uncomfortable, and what feels good. This doesn't mean carrying out a full conversation while having sex; simple words — like "deeper" or "not so deep," "gently" or "harder," "faster" or "slower" — usually are enough to get the point across and make sex more enjoyable for both of you.

Hope this helps!
