Common causes would be drinking or eating something too hot or an injury to the tongue. If your tongue is swelling, it could be an allergic reaction to something.

Redness, swelling, and blistering are signs of a tongue burn. Your doctor can likely diagnose the condition by simply examining your tongue.
Burning tongue syndrome is diagnosed by excluding diseases and conditions with similar symptoms. If your symptoms worsen or persist, see your doctor.
