Hi I my cycles our irregular so I am not sure what is going on. I track my cycles so here are the last few months Jan. 7, March 6 and April 20 were the dates of the first date of my menstrual cycles they usually last 5 days. I took an early ovulation predictor on May 14 and it was positive I had sex with my husband between the 10th and the 12th we don't use protection. But ever since my ovulation my breasts have been extremely sore. This is not unusual because my breasts are usually sore for a week and then my period starts. My breasts have been sore longer than usual it's been probably 2 weeks now. It is not as sore as it was a few days ago now the pain is subsiding but my nipples are still very tender. I took a pregnancy test yesterday which can back negative. I am not sure what to do since my cycles are so irregular.

Hi Kayput,

I'm sorry, but thanks for telling us. That is so frustrating, I know. I've been researching about this topic of "how to get pregnant" quite a bit recently, and you can search this site for more information, or let us know if you have any more questions about ovulating, pregnancy signs, etc.

We're "rooting" for ya! :-)

Thanks for your advice. Waiting is so hard but that is something I definitely need to learn. I am constipated and slightly crampy. But when I was ovulating it was painful for a couple of days and then the pain went away. I feel like my period is about to start today. But I am never constipated around the time of my cycle. I guess I will keep praying and wait to see what happens. I will let you know!!

Hi Kayput,

Just to get the dates right:
- Your ovulation predictor test said you were likely ovulating on May 14th.
- You had unprotected sex on May 10th and 12th.
- You are experiencing symptoms of sore breasts for 2 weeks, and negative pregnancy test (today is May 28th). Your sore breasts aren't as sore, but nipples are tender.

The soreness/tenderness are both indicators of changes in the hormones in your cycle, which can be either from pregnancy or menstrual period...hard to say! Most pregnancy signs do not appear for most women, most of the time, until they are further along in pregnancy...about 4 weeks is when most symptoms (breast tenderness, nausea, etc) occur. Of course, other women may be more "in tune" with their bodies, or more sensitive to changes, and may notice symptoms earlier.

It may still be too early for a home pregnancy test to detect the pregnancy hormone, since you are just right at the 2-week mark after your predicted ovulation. Some women ovulate "as late as" 16 or more days before their period starts, so if you think you ovulated on May 14th, and you know you have irregular cycles, you may not have a period that begins until May 30th, at the earliest.

I know it's the most difficult time to wait (been there, done that!), as you are trying to become pregnant, and wondering if another period is coming..or if a baby is coming. What a life-altering "waiting period".

With that said, can you wait one more week, and take the pregnancy test again?

When I was in your situation, I heard some helpful advice: it is difficult to wait another week for a pregnancy result, either positive or negative, but once you have the result, then there is more waiting. If it's negative, then try, try again, but have to wait until ovulating. If it's positive, then you have to wait to see the doctor until you are 8 weeks (I believe). If you think about it this way, it may help, that this is good practice to learn the "art of waiting"! ;-)

As always, if you are nervous or concerned about your symptoms, please don't hesitate to call your doctor's office and speak with a nurse. That can also help you calm your nerves.

Please let us know when you find out!
