Although people with shingles cannot pass shingles to someone else, they can pass the chickenpox virus to others through direct contact with the fluid from the rash. So if your baby has not yet had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine, she or he could become infected with the virus and develop chickenpox. Once the rash has developed crusts, the person is no longer contagious. Call your doctor for further information if you are concerned.
