Period 4 days early and only lasted 3 days?

I have had a regular cycle of 28 days since coming off the contraceptive pill in Feb, and my period usually lasts about 5 days. I was due on 25 April but started on 22 April and it only lasted 3 days, the 3rd day was hardly anything at all and for the first days it was more brown than red. I had none of the normal signs to warn me that i would start my period and i was very surprised when i realised i was bleeding on the 22nd. I did a hpt yesterday and it was negative.

Yes, last time we were ttc it happened straight away so i am not used to waiting.
