MY TWO bestest friends reassure me not to bother and i will start soon ( Yah coz they have theirs :L ) Ive got almost a 30a chest ( i know not big right ) im getting a stringy kind of white / clear discharge in my under wear ive had this about 6 months now ... ive got pubic hair but not really much armpit hair .. sometimes i get these horrid stitches in my side like ive been running and my stomach hurts sometimes under my belly button..
Advice people

Ok im not an expert but hun apparently brown or white or clear discharges are a sign of your period is on its way so id say in my opinion there is a really high chance your periods should start soon

this is kinda embarasing as im 14 and everyone around me seems to have started their period already, all my female family members started theirs around the ages of 11-13 and yet for me still nothing. I have had the like brown gooey discharge but it happened late july and still theres nothing. I'm going through another set of the brown stuff now but want to get a rough idea of when i might start.. if anyone can tell me that. i have pubic hair and under arm hair, my boobs are a B or a C 30 or 32.. just curious why i havnt started yet. i no its different for everyone but everyone around me seems to have theirs already.

Thankyou to who ever replys to this.. just answer me back by the name of curious. :) thanks xx

Hi Curious,
Great question! The brown gooey stuff is actually menstrual discharge, so your menstrual cycle is definitely kicking in...it is just not the bright red heavy flow yet. Your period may be irregular for a while (change in color, amount of flow, how long it lasts, when it starts during the month...even missing a month is normal).

Girls start their periods anytime between ages 8-15; most girls start their period around the age of 11-13 (as your family members did), but starting when you are 14, 15 or even 16 can be very normal.

However...it sounds like you HAVE started your period, and it may be a good idea to start charting it on a calendar (date it started and ended is all you would need). The women in your family likely do not remember the exact color of their first-ever period, so they may have experienced the same thing you are now!

I think it is wonderful that you are able to talk about your body and menstrual cycle so openly with your family; many families are embarrassed by this very natural process, whereas other families celebrate the beginning of menarche!

Hi troubled,

We are not able to predict when exactly your first period will begin, but age 13 is around the time girls start with their first period; some start much earlier (age 8) and others start much later (age 15). I'm surprised your mom did not begin her period until age 19!

A good gauge is when other female family members began their periods, but it is no guarantee. Also, many woman's memories may not be as exact as they remember (age of onset, what it felt like, or looked like, etc), so they may be off by a few years (unless they wrote it in a diary, or it was a momentous occasion for them!)

I hope you are able to enjoy the stage of life that you are in, as wanting something because "everyone else" does (older siblings, parent, friends) will only cause stress, worry, jealousy, resentment and disappointment. How can you see the good side of the situation you are in now? What things do you have and enjoy that your older siblings and friends do not have, are not as good at, or do not find as much happiness from? Find your uniqueness, what makes you special, and focus on these qualities. Part of "growing up" includes having the skills to do all of the above!

Your period will come soon enough! There is no reason to go to the doctor, and you can always bring a sanitary napkin (pad) with you on vacation, if you are worried.
