Q:

Please help. My periods have always been VERY regular always 7 days. But this cycle I have been spotting 3 days longer than normal. I just got over being sick with the flu and was taking some pain medication can this cause a prolonged cycle?

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and Welcome to EmpowHer.
Any changes to your body including exercise, diet and especially medications could certainly cause irregular periods. Remember that sometimes our cycles miss a month or are shorter or longer than normal for no apparent reason also and this is common. If you continue to have irregular periods after a couple cycles or experience any pain, call your physician. Otherwise, you may just be experiencing a little abnormality due to the changes in your body.
I hope this helps and please keep us updated.
