Pregnancy or ovarion cyst?

Hello :)
I'm 22 yrs old and for the first time ( if I don't count the times during my first yrs of menstruating) my period is late.
My last period was on the 8th of May and at this time I was having 26 and less days cycles due ( before this time my period was on every 30/31 days).
Also I would like to note that I'm experiencing some menstrual-like cramps which come and go occasionally,my breasts seem heavy and sore and I'm very cranky and moody.
No nausea or vomiting what so ever.

I would like to note that almost 4 months ago I've been diagnosed with cyst on my left ovary aprox. 5 cm in diameter.I've been having this cyst problems when I was younger too,but my period was never late like this.
I had unprotected sex with my husband before my ovulation but I guess I had miscalculated my fertility days.

I was wondering if I could be pregnant or all this is due to my ovarian cyst problem.I'm still waiting to take a home pregnancy test as I'm worried that the result will be negative which will make me think that someone's wrong with me.
Is it normal that my period is so late because of for instance my cyst got bigger or ruptured?I just want to add that I don't have any significant abdominal pain except some bloating, gas and time to time lil cramp.

Any advice/thought/opinion would be greatly appreciated.

A million thanks :)

Thank you for the update. A simple cyst is what they call functional since they are common and are apart of the menstrual cycle. As I mentioned earlier, if you have a cyst that is enlarged, you will most likely experience irregular periods.

On the other hand, unprotected sex (or even protected sex) can certainly cause pregnancy. I would obtain the pregnancy test to ease your mind. The symptoms are for both the cyst and pregnancy. It would be hard to distinguish between the two. I am sorry I couldn’t be of more help but under the circumstances, I think a pregnancy test would resolve the issue.

Thanks for your comment.
I have what they call simple cyst which is causing me no pain.I have had cyst before also, but I have never had delays in my period.
Since being diagnosed with the cyst I have done blood pregnancy test and it came negative. But this was couple of months ago.

So you think my cyst is responsible for what's going on? Regarding my period I mean.I thought I might be pregnant too,but I have a feeling it's just the cyst.

Thanks once again.

Hi girl22,

Thank you for your question. Ovarian cysts are very common in women. An irregular period is the most common sign of an ovarian cyst, so I wouldn’t be too alarmed. If you are experiencing severe or spasmodic pain in your lower abdomen, accompanied by fever and vomiting, see your doctor.

Do you know what kind of cyst you have? Many physicians actually give you a pregnancy test in order to see if you have a corpus luteum cyst. This kind of cyst will create a false positive on a pregnancy test so you should be aware. A simple blood test will be a more accurate test if you have this type of cyst.

You can find more information about cysts on the following website from the Mayo Clinic http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ovarian-cysts/DS00129/DSECTION=causes.

I hope this helps.
