Severe cramping, other symptoms, two weeks before period is due.

I started my last period somewhere between the 16th and 19th of November (can't recall exactly). My periods are often irregular, but the last few months have occurred around the same time. I'm thinking my next one is due, at the earliest, tomorrow, but I've had severe cramping for four days now, along with nausea, headaches, dizziness, and heartburn. I rarely get any cramping at all with my period, and all the other symptoms are unusual for me. I'm not on any birth control, and had unprotected sex somewhere between Nov. 19th and 23rd. A pregnancy test came back negative, and I have an appointment tomorrow. It sounds a bit to me like secondary dysmenorrhea, any thoughts?

A home pregnancy test would not be accurate at this time; you would need to wait until after your next expected has not begun, and that would be around the middle of December (since your last period was around the middle of November). It is also very early for any pregnancy symptoms, so it's a good thing you are going to the doctor to rule out any medical conditions.

Dysmenorrhea occurs during your period, so I'm not sure this matches your symptoms. Please keep us updated after your doctor appointment!

Thanks for your reply :]

The doctor was unable to tell me much of anything, unfortunately. She suggested quite a few things, from ectopic pregnancy to simple constipation to stomach flu, but we ruled each one out. I think I'll wait to see if my period shows up, hopefully the cramping and nausea ease up with that.

Another update:

My symptoms haven't gone away or gotten better (going on two weeks now). I went to another doctor, they performed a pregnancy test (urine) and it came back negative, probably due to being too early still. The doctor was confused as to what it could be besides pregnancy, and advised me to wait for my period to show up to take further action (if it doesn't, test again; if it does and the symptoms don't go away or improve, she recommended further testing).

I'm waiting until the 23rd for my period; that's the latest it should be, if I don't get it by then, one more test :]

I'll let you know!

Today is the 23rd, and just checking with you to see if your period started?

It did! Unfortunately, most of the symptoms are still here. I'm going to wait until my period is completely over and if I still have the cramping and nausea, etc., I'm going to make another appointment. Thanks :]

Great! Now at least you can start narrowing-down your symptoms, and be sure to keep a good written record of your symptoms (severity, duration, triggers, etc).
