Q:

So Confused?! Am I Pregnant??!!

Hello everyone!

To start off, my periods are usually very regular, every 29 days or so, the beginning of every month. I did have a missed period back in April, but it eventually came mid-April. My partner and I are very careful and ALWAYS use protection, except for this one time.

My last period was July 3-6. I missed my August period, but knew that I could not be pregnant because we were to busy to be intimate and had a lot going on. I was stressed out because of a move and started a new job. Good enough reasons for me to miss my period, because it does happen, even when you are regular.

On August 19th we had unprotected sex. At this point I was already about 15 days late. I called my doctor to ask when the soonest I could test with a HPT, since I had already been more than 15 days late. His nurse told me to take a HPT right away and then take another on September 2nd. Both were negative.

I called my doctor again. His nurse told me to continue testing every 3 days or to come in on September 6th and get a blood test. I decided to get a blood test since I heard that they are usually 100% correct. My results came back as negative.

My doctor's nurse told me to continue to test every 3 days until I get a positive or my period. If I miss a 3rd period, he wants me to come in for an exam. Before today I had taken a total of 5 HPTs, ALL were negative. A friend of mine, who is also a nurse, told me that it took about 6 weeks for her to finally get a positive and that every woman is different. She also told me that the last one that she took, she happened to glance at at about 4 hours later and it was positive. And guess what, she was pregnant.

This news took me by surprise because it says right on the box not to read the results after about 10 minutes. I know that a positive line can show up because of evaporation. Later that day I was cleaning my bathroom and decided to glance at my 5 old tests just sitting in my bathroom trash. They were all still negative.

Now a jump back, the reason I believe that I am pregnant is that about 2 weeks after my unprotected sex I got really bad cramps, cramps like I was about to start my period any minute. I have also been fatigued and a bit moody than usual. I noticed that I had a bit of blood on my toilet paper a couple of nights ago and I checked my panties to see a very faint pinkish stain. My nose is probably better than a blood hounds at this point and I get a bit nauseous. I have been bloated and have major acid reflux. I know some of those symptoms are a bit early to have, but every woman is different.

I took a HPT today with my first morning urine at 9:30am and it was negative. I pushed it aside and continued on with my day. I happened to be in my bathroom again at 3:30pm and noticed that it said positive. And the positive line was NOT faint at all.

I know that you are not supposed to read a test after 10 minutes, but it was the same type of test that I have been using, and all the other old ones still say negative. I am planning on taking another test in 3 days just to be sure. I am also planning on calling my doctor. Basically, I wanted to post what has been going on with me to see if anyone else has been having similar issues/problems.

I have been all over all kinds of forums and I have noticed that no one ever lets everyone know what the end result was. So basically I would like some FRIENDLY advice and hope that maybe this post could help someone who has a similar story find some peace of mind.

Thanks!!

OH NO! I am so sorry to hear about this, Anonymous. Please keep us updated about the removal of your cyst. You indicated that you were pregnant and that now you are not. Did you experience a miscarriage?

Again, please keep us updated.

Best wishes,
Missie

Hello Again!!

Update:
I started spotting really bad on September 15th and then started what seemed to be my period on September 18th. The bleeding did not stop until October 1st.

I started having extremely bad pain on my left side on September 29th. It got so bad that I had to go and see my doctor the next day. On September 30th, the pain had spread everywhere in my abdomen. My doctor ordered blood and urine tests and an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a nice size cyst on my right ovary.

I have to go back to see my Gyno on October 18th and also still get a cat scan.

So it has been concluded that I am NOT pregnant. If anyone wants me to keep updating, I will. If not, this is the last time you will hear from me in this thread.

Thank you for you help!!

Hello Again!!

Update:
On Tuesday, Sept 13th I took another HPT it came up positive right away and then at about the 2 minute mark, the positive started to fade away and then stayed away.

I contacted my Doctor the next day and I am scheduled to go in for another blood test.

And Thank you Missie!!

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for sharing your story and welcome to EmpowHer. From my understanding, you have missed your period since July, with the exception of the minor spotting that you experienced and had sex on August 19th and you are now in this possible pregnancy predictament.

Since you already had a blood test that was negative on the 6th...you may want to wait until closer to the end of this month to try another blood test. You can also go back to your doctor to ask about possible medication that forces your period to start if you indeed are NOT pregnant. Either way, I would certainly wait a little longer to at least have 30days between the date of your sexual experience and another pregnancy test.

Good luck and please keep us posted,
Missie
