i have spotted blood on my discharge, but it wasn't a lot. i thought i was going to start my period but i didn't, plus, i had my period last 2-3 weeks ago (started January 27 ended roughly January 31 or February 1) and this event happened last February 14. i have been irregular for the past 6 months thought (missing periods on some months and having it twice on some months). i am only 19 years old.. i made my own research and it says it could be cause of hormonal changes, cervical erosion (which happens during child bearing age), infections such as yeast infection or cervical cancer.. I am just worrying a bit, cause this is my first time to experience this.

please kindly reply. thank you.

thanks Maryann.. i am getting quite worried because i missed my period last month (February) again, it may be an hormone imbalance, and i am thinking on getting a pap smear test if this continues. But, for now i will just observe it first. are there any natural remedy for this though? for example, a food that you can eat that can help to balance hormonal changes?

Hello roses,

Your health is not something that you want to fool with. I strongly suggest that you schedule an appointment with a gynecologist. Finding the cause of your irregular menstrual cycles is important. I would not recommend any natural remedies, because you do not know what is causing the problem.

i didn't really notice the color of it because it was mixed in the vaginal discharge and i think i noticed it like 3-4 hours after it came out. but the blood left on my knickers looked like a period blood stain? That's why i thought my period was going to start. and Maryann, i have another question. do you know when you go for a pap smear test, would the OBGYN know that you have or are sexually active? i was just curious, and does this kind of test hurt?

thank you again.

Hello roses,
A gynecologist will do a Pap smear during a pelvic examination. No, he or she will not know if you are sexually active just by doing a pelvic exam. You may be asked if you are sexually active during the appointment. A pelvic exam does not hurt, although you will feel pressure when the speculum, which is a medical tool use during the exam, is inserted into your vagina.

Hello roses,
Generally, these activities will not cause bleeding. Rubbing your clitoris has no long term negative side effects.

Is the spotting bright red blood? If you or your partner has a sharp or jagged fingernail, this may cut the vaginal wall and cause slight bleeding.

thanks for answering my question Maryann.. But, would things like repeated rubbing of the clitoris and other foreplay. have a contribution to the blood in found in my vaginal discharge as well? and does rubbing your clit have any side effects in the long run?

Hello roses,

Considering your age, it is possible that a hormonal imbalance may be the cause of your irregular periods. Menstrual periods are often irregular during the first few years after menstruation starts. It may take several years for the hormones that control menstruation to reach a balance.

Emotional stress, excessive weight loss or gain, and increased exercise contribute to irregular periods.

If this pattern persists and causes you concern, you could always schedule an appointment with your gynecologist.
