Swollen and puffy eyelids in the morning and then get flaky, red and sore during the day...

Hi there...

Was just wondering... the last 6-8 weeks, i've been waking up with swollen puffy eyelids - which i first thought was seasonal allergies, but it hasn't stopped. As the day goes on, my eyelids skin will get flaky like exzema, flakes off or just looks horrible... sometimes they're sore, red in areas, very dry and sometimes itchy...

Has anyone experienced this? I've never had any problems with skin problems ever nor many allergies ever either... once in a while in the spring...

I've tried many different kinds of natural creams with no relief! What could be causing this? I'm stumped... when i first went to my doctor, she just sent me home with allergy pills and drops that have done nothing but cost me lots of money....

I'd appreciate any help... with much appreciation...
sincerely, carol :o)

I have had this for a few months off and on and can not figure out what is making my eyes look so ugly. My most recent idea is a make up that i only use once in awhile. I used it this morning to try to "cover" my red puffy eyes.... But a few hours later, my eyes were worse. I threw out that make up PRONTO... I'll see if my eyes look better tomorrow but what has everyone found to help soothe the uncomfortable feeling?

Thank you all for your comments.... I do have SO many allergies, but after REALLY thinking about what I have eaten that could possibly be the problem, I think it is dairy, butter in my case and of course cheese. I have a lactose problem anyhow, but who would think it would show up in your eye lids? I do remember a facial I once had that contained milk... so I'll cut out all dairy and probably the wheat if possible. It was just so helpful reading that we all had the same problem. Thank you all SO much. barb

I have always had puffy eyes and in recent years, I've noticed the darkness under them is getting harder and harder to fight with drugstore brand eye creams. My paternal grandmother had such severe black circles all around her eyes-- I knew I was dealing with an inherited demon. I asked my dermatologist if there was ANYTHING on the market that would lighten my circles and she suggested the Olive Night Creme from Made from Earth Skin Care. After using up my first jar, I am coming back for more! This cream really does lighten the un-lightenable. It helps with the puffiness, too, but not as significantly as the dark circles. I almost look like a normal person instead of something from the raccoon family.

I actually found the cure, thanks to an ophthalmologist. Everything is a-okay! He prescribed me a topical steroid ointment and the puffiness went away in about 2 weeks! Heaven sent!

My eyes are red flaky and itch too. But I also now have adult acne since having my last baby 4 months ago. So I try acne treatments and my eyes flare up. I use moituizers and unscented cleaners and my acne flares up. I just cant win. I have sensitive skin so everything i use is uncented and miostuizing.

Suddenly the past 2 weeks I wake up and both eyelids are swollen. I put cold compresses on and it reduces it a little bit. I have no idea why all of the sudden this is happening. I'm not using anything new. I stopped using any shadow right away, no creams, only wash my face at night and use mascara in the a.m. (a new one). The puffiness goes down somewhat during the day, but not 100%. I wear contacts and started using a new pair. My eyes don't bother me, they're not red, not itchy either. I started taking Claritan yesterday, in case it is allergy related. I'm going to see my Optometrist tomorrow just to rule out anything serious going on in my eyes, though I don't think so. It's driving me crazy because I don't know what else to do.

Wow, i wish i had discovered this earlier!! I am in my mid thrities and a couple of years ago experienced the same issues with my eyes, feeling really hayfever-y, itchy and red, and PUFFY!! I relate to you Jinger, i had a very similar experience. It actually flared up after using a new eyecream, but i think this just kicked it off, didn't start it. I spent so much money on doctors, antihistimines, eye checks, and new makeup, and pretty much was just left with "i guess it is a weak part of your body". Allergy drops would help but only for a couple of days. The dr said it might be stress, so just chill out and relax. I had more holidays than ever last year, and it flared up in many countries!!! SOOO frustrating. Anyway, did see a TCM and had the exact same diagnosis as dreamweaver, the herbs cleaned it up super quick for the first couple of weeks. But it would creep back and my eyes would be so sore and red, i also felt sick and depressed when it got really bad. After a bad flare up, and it has actually got alot worse this time, i figured it might be an allergic reaction to food. so i have been off wheat for one week: i am not so tired, my concentration has improved, and my mood is more stable, my eyes have slightly improved. After reading this awesome site, i am now going to cut out dairy, i have had issues with dairy when i was younger, and now it seems really obvious!!! So i am crossing my fingers. I just want to say if you are experiencing this, YOU ARE NOT CRAZY, like the doctors made me feel!!! Keep listening to you body. I believe now i am allergic, but it is to something i put in my body, not in my environment.
Thanks to all of you guys, this has helped me tremendously.
