Q:

Took Plan B last month, but still no period

I had unprotected sex (stupid, I know) June 12, the day after my period ended. I took Plan B within the 72 hours but was stressing all month about it. Now in July, I did not get my period. I went to the gyno, they did a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I was just wondering when I should expect my period or is there a chance that the pregnancy test could've been wrong?

Emergency contraception can cause a delay in your period, especially since you have negative pregnancy test results (as long as they were all taken after August 11th).

You can wait a few more weeks until mid-September for your menstrual period to begin, and if it does not, please call your Gynecologist to ask about next steps.

Yeah, i'm thinking about waiting until mid September, but I don't feel like it's coming, I have no cramps, breast tenderness, nothing. Hopefully it comes soon, thank you for replying, much appreciated

I know this post is SO OLD but did you end up getting your period? If so, do you remember when it came?

Yes, it was a urine test. My gynecologist said that my period may be a few days later, but I've been reading that some women do not even get theirs for that month. I was really stressed out about it, so I think I stressed way too much and caused my period to not come this month.

Thank you so much for responding!

I must know your results. I'm in the same boat with nearly the same dates. I'm not supposed to have my period until July 3rd, but I keep freaking out about it. I don't really have the symptoms of getting my period (breast tenderness, ect.). But on the other hand, I don't have the symptoms of pregnancy either. I'm not ill or no stomach pains.

What type of pregnancy test was performed at your gynecologist? A urine test is extremely effective, and a "false negative" is unlikely.

Did they tell you that your period may be delayed after taking Plan B? Emergency contraception is (generally speaking) a "mega dose" of hormonal contraception, and can throw off a period. If you have already spoken with your gynecologist, taken a pregnancy test, then your period may be a few weeks late.

Don't hesitate to call your doctor's office, if your period is late beyond a few weeks.
