TSH level 16.8...

Hi all...TTC...age 25 yrs...on checking my TSh levels , which is 16.8 my Doc prescribed me thyrox-50 tablets and novelon(contraceptive pills) for amonth...
Just wanted to know how long wil take to get my TSH to normal level...and why is dat Doc is keeping me on the pill...
Pls help me o understand....

Hi Anon,

On average, it may take about 4-6 weeks for your thyroid levels to completely normalize while on medications. You should still talk to your doctor about when he will reevaluate your TSH levels. Although it sounds like he's only planning on keeping you on it for a month and perhaps going from there.

Hormone levels are extermely important, especially when trying to conceive a baby. This is probably the reason why your doctor is keeping you on birth control pills until your TSH levels go down to a safe range for pregnancy.

Spoke to my Doc....she said exactly the same, as you, about the weeks, to normalize my thyroid levels.
