Q:

Urgent help please. Every morning when I brush my teeth, anytime I spit out mucus, I have blood in it. My gums are not bleeding too. It's giving me bad mouth odour. Please, what could be the cause?

Hi Anon and thanks for your question.

How long have you been spitting up blood? Blood in the saliva can mean many different things. It could be a sign of a minor infection, or it could mean you are bleeding from your digestive system or respiratory tract. It could also indicate a serious medical problem such as cancer. If the bleeding continues you need a proper exam and diagnosis from a medical professional so you can get immediate medical care. Hope that helps, let us know what you find out when you see your physician.

Best,

Pat
