Vaginal irritation after being diagnosed with a bacterial infection

I know I have asked a lot of questions lately. I have gone to my doctor with continued vaginal itching after treating a yeast infection and she only confirmed a small bacterial infection. She said she didn't see any yeast but that yeast is hard to see under a microscope so it could still be there. She prescribed a antibiotic for the infection and a cream for the itching, but it's been a few days and I'm not feeling better at all. In fact the itching is a little worse. Could the yeast infection be coming back? The cream is supposed to be for yeast. And also, I have been on BC for 3 weeks and have had a slight bleeding that happens at least once a day and now it's a little worse. I am having a hard time telling if it's breakthrough bleeding, something caused by the infection, or maybe my period? I told the doctor and she thinks that it's my body getting used to the birth control. I'm so confused and uncomfortable.

Hi Kelise,
Thank you for your question. Bacterial vaginosis may take some time to heal. Prescription medicine is usually necessary for a continuous problem and continuing to follow up with your treating physician is expected.

How long have you been using the medication? Usually, it may take at least a week before you feel better...and sometimes a little longer. Let us know how long it has been since you started the medication so we can better assist you.

I am still irritated. My doctor called today but I wasn't able to get back to her before they closed. I'm calling back tomorrow because she did send some stuff to the lab and I'm thinking she has some lab results for me. Praying that it's nothing serious. This has been going on for over a month and it's absolutely horrible. I started one weeks worth of antibiotics a week ago. And she gave me a cream for the itching which it only helps for a little bit then it's itchy again. =( I've heard that yogurt is a good cure. I'm about to try it. I will try anything within reason at this point.
