Venous lake on my lip

I have this dark blue/purple lesion on my lip that keeps getting bigger. I went to see the dermatologist and she said that it's a venous lake. She said it was nothing I had to worry about. Does anyone else have one or know of someone who does? If so, what was your/their treatment?

I posted a comment on November 6th after having laser surgery on my venous lake. To all of you who have been misinformed, my lip looks fantastic. It has only been two weeks and it's 98% healed, no scarring, no dent and my insurance covered the procedure. I went to one of the country's top dermatologists, Dr. Thomas McMeekin, in Rochester, NY. The man had done dermatological laser surgeries on my son's hands and his hand look like new. If your venous lake is growing and bleeding or is irritating in anyway, it will be covered by insurance. Mine was described as an irritated venous lake and was approved. Good luck to you all. For those of you who were told by your doctor that laser surgery would leave a big dent and look worse that it already is . . . find a new doctor. Your doctor is just not as well educated/informed as he/she should be.

I had one; that was the original diagnosis. Other physicians used other terms.
Watch the growth would be my main thought. You don't want to let it get too big. I took far too long to have it taken care of and it got much bigger (almost the size of a pea by the end). Surgery was not required, but I visited an oral surgeon several time for sclerotherapy. Basically, injections that closed off the veins feeding into it. And yes, I did swell up further during the procedure itself, but it goes down. Now, you would have a hard time telling I had one, esp once I apply lipstick.

I just had laser surgery on a venous lake on my lower iip. It had been there for many years and never bothered me. Although, it bothered others. People were always coming up to me asking what was wrong with my lip or did I have cancer or does it hurt, etc. I just decided to get rid of it. They numb your lip and the laser procedure takes about two minutes. I was told it would take about a week to heal. It looks pretty bad the first couple of days. I am looking forward to having a venous lake free lip! Good luck.

45yo female with Venous Lake on lower lip. I keep Vaseline on it all the time. Sometimes it pulses like a heartbeat. Skin seems thin so if I don't put Vaseline on it I could have bleeding without even knowing it. Most embarrassing was once at a business lunch meeting drinking tea and my lip starting bleeding uncontrollable down my chin. It has been frozen once, got smaller but still exists. I've had photo laser facial treatment. Next visit I'm going to ask her to zap my lip also.

I also have a venous lake on my bottom lip. I got tired of people suggesting I have an "ink mark" on my lip and went to a dermatologist. She measured it and gave me my options....1. laser it, the end result would be a dent in my lip which would look worse than the purple mark. 2. stitch it, which would leave a scar or 3. nothing.
Insurance will not cover any proceedure since they consider it cosmetic. Hard to believe they consider something I can feel my pulse cosmetic. And lipstick does not cover it!
If anyone knows of a plastic surgeon in the Indianapolis area, please let me know.

I have one also and I'm going back to the dermatologist to see what can be done to get rid of it. My mom had them also but she never did anything about it
