The best way to lose weight is a low fat, low calorie (not too low!) healthy diet with a lot of fruit, veg and fiber and plenty of lean protein. That and daily exercise should have you losing weight in no time.
There is no need to go on a "diet" per se, just make sensible decisions about what you eat.
