I mean it can be brand named/OTC (Over counter)/prescription/store brand. I for one always questioned it, but never asked it until now.

Good question. There are no cons to using generic drugs. The reality is, all generic drugs are the exact replica of the original and are administered by the Federal Drug Administration. Why are they cheaper? The original owner of the drug has many expenses such as research, patent, manufacturing, marketing, etc. This part of providing medications becomes very expensive. The original owner will then provide a manufacturer with the information to create a generic with little overhead and then obviously gets a percentage of the profit.
So in essence, they are exactly the same.
