Last month I was 8 days late. Once I got my period it was not normal I Had light discolouration for the first day. Day 2 I passed a clot the size of my thumb (was like a string) day 3 very very light bleeding. day 4 more discolouration. Took 3 tests all negative. This month I am currently 4 days late. No cramping or any indication my period is coming. Anyone have any ideas?

Hello Temptation69,
I would like to welcome you to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about your menstrual cycle.
The menstrual cycle is regulated by four hormones: estrogen, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and progesterone. An imbalance in the levels of any one of these hormones will impact your menstrual cycle.
Estrogen and progesterone have a key role in the building up and loosening of the lining of the uterus. Fluctuations in these two hormones causes irregular menstrual cycles in women during perimenopause.
Tempation69, since you have noticed changes for two consecutive months, consider talking with your gynecologist.

What are your thoughts about the cause of that one clot ? There was extreamly light bleeding after but not before.

Hi Tempation69,
Only one clot followed by extremely light bleeding is a bit of a mystery to me.
The body typically releases anticoagulants to keep menstrual blood from clotting as it's being released. But when your period is heavy and blood is being rapidly expelled, there's not enough time for anticoagulants to work. That enables clots to form.
Wish I could be of more help.
