Ebola outbreaks are huge in the news right now! There have been outbreaks and deaths from the disease this week. What exactly is Ebola? What are its symptoms? I know Ebola is mainly in Africa, but should I be worried about getting it somehow?

Hi Shanon,
Thanks for that answer! Definitely gives me a better idea about what Ebola is, where it's affecting people and what the symptoms are. It's been so big in the news, but I've never really heard a whole lot about it since it's not a big disease in the U.S. Thanks for the clarification :)

Hi Erin,
Thanks for your question. Ebola is a deadly viral infection that can cause kidney and liver failure. This virus has flu-like symptoms, including: sore throat, high fever, muscle ache and weakness. These symptoms can progress quickly to vomiting, diarrhea, internal bleeding and organ failure.
The virus is contracted by close contact with the skin and bodily fluids of an infected animal and passed from person to person the same way. Those who are at highest risk of contracting Ebola are located in, or planning to travel to, West Africa. Countries including Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are currently experiencing a major outbreak.
I hope that answers your questions and alleviates some concerns.
Best Wishes,
Shanon
