I woke up with white spots on my tonsils that are ranged from small to large and are a bit painful to swallow but not like really painful my throat hurts but I think the source of the pain is coming from a lump on the roof of my mouth at the very back I can feel it with my tounge and the skin around is quite painful its about the size of a normal small spot and I wondered if anyone knows what it could be as there is only one to my knowledge. Thanks

Hi Anonymous and thanks for your question.

White spots on the tonsils and in the mouth can be caused by many different conditions. They include tonsillitis (an infection of the tonsils), thrush (a fungal infection caused by an excess amount of yeast), a sore throat (strep infection) and mononucleosis (a viral infection).

If your symptoms continue or become painful, and/or you develop a fever, you should see your healthcare professional to determine the exact cause and to get medications if necessary.

Hope that helps and that you will let us know what you learn if you end up seeing your doctor.
