What is the reason for getting periods every 4 days?

My mum has been getting her periods literally every 4 days. We did a blood test report and it said that her cancer antigen was a bit high like just above the borderline. When we went to the specialist they said that there is something and the operation wouldn't be for months as it isn't that important. But after this her periods started getting worse, like every 4 days. My mum also had an operation last year for polyps removal, is it that? The doctor said the ovaries aaren't also the same size. So we don't know what to do but what is the reason?

Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
I'm so sorry your mother is experiencing these problems!
First of all, she needs to see an gynecologist or OBGYN doctor! She could have hormonal imbalances or something more serious such as: Polymenorrhea, Menorrhagia, or Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB). There are other possible causes but these are the most common.
I strongly urger you to demand that the doctor explored every option, because prolonged bleeding of this kind signifies serious problems and can lead to other problems if it continues.
Do not allow the doctor to brush it off as no big deal.
