I started my period one day and there was pain in the area of my left ovary. The pain lasted for 7 days (my period lasted for 4 days). At first it wasn't bad, it just hurt when I touched the area. By the 7th day it hurt to bend. There was no pain at all the day after that. It is not 6 days later and it hurts again. I know I need to go to the doctor, but in the meantime what do you think?

Thank you for your question and welcome to EmpowHer.

One possible reason why your Ovary hurts can be that you may have an ovarian cyst. I am not a doctor, so I'm not diagnosing you and you will definitely need to get this pain checked out.

Most ovarian cysts do not cause symptoms. The two most common symptoms are:

Pelvic pain
Menstrual bleeding

Pain is usually caused by:
Direct pressure from the cysts on the ovaries and surrounding structures
Causing chronic pelvic fullness or a dull ache
Bleeding from a cyst into and around the ovary
Causing more intense, sharp pain as the blood irritates the lining of the abdomen

Pain may come and go on a regular basis. Or, you may notice the pain more:
Just before or after your period
During sex

Other symptoms:
Urinary discomfort associated with bladder pressure or irritation

In rare cases, a cyst may become twisted. This can cut off its own blood supply, causing:
Severe abdominal pain

Call your doctor right away if you have these symptoms.

Please keep us updated on how your doctor's visit goes and what is causing the pain.
