Q:

Will an emergency contraceptive still be effected if past the expiration date?

I was unaware when I took it that it was 3 months past the expiration? Will it still work? Is it safe to take another if I took one less than 24 hours ago? Only the one instance of unprotected sex though, not another since I took the expired pill.

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

It's a guess as to whether it will work or not. My guess is that it will work fine - many meds work for months (or longer) after an expiration date. However, it's a risk you take. A call to your pharmacist will let you know more.
Best,
Susan
