There's a really tragic story in the news today that you can read here:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24982210/
It was on the Today Show this morning. A 10-year-old boy drowned about an hour after he got out of the pool. This is so scary and I think all parents should be aware of it and the symptoms.

The story although tragic is misinformation. #1 it is probably a wrong diagnosis #2 Dry drowning is a different entity where people drown in the water, but there is no water in the lungs. This is due to the vocal cords closing because it reacts to the water. The basically asphyxiate and that is different than what happened to this child.

I had heard of this, but never knew what to look for. It's so frightening to know that your child could be at risk just taking a bath! Because I grew up practically living in water (our pool and growing up in coastal communities), our biggest fear of drowning was actually in the water.
Such a very sad story for the boy's family.

Thanks for sharing...I had never heard of this before, and didn't realize this was something that could even happen! The story said even children who get a small amount of water in their lungs during a bath could be in danger of "dry drowning", but luckily, there are some signs to watch for.
