Came across an interesting article from the National Women's Health Network about a drug called Lupron that's being used to treat endometriosis, fibroids and as a part of some fertility treatments.
According to the article the drug was originally used to treat prostate cancer in men and can have some side effects in women that include:
*Tingling,
*Headache and migraine,
*Dizziness,
*Severe joint pain,
*Difficulty breathing,
*Chest pain,
*Nausea,
*Depression,
*Emotional instability,
*Dimness of vision,
*Fainting,
Weakness and many, many others.
The makers of the drug say the side effects only last about six months, however. Some women say that's not the case.
Has anyone used this drug? If so, what has been your experience? Would you recommend it?

Anon,
Thank you so much for your post. I suffered through endometriosis for several years, so I was happy to read that the Lupron gave you relief, but sad to learn that the symptoms have returned. I hope it works well for you again and that you don't have worrisome side effects. Will you come back and update us?

Nice post ! I immediately had serious health issues with bone pain, chest pain and rising blood pressure. My doctor said these symptoms were unrelated, but they were certainly caused by lupron. thanks a lot for the nice information to share with us.

There are different types of solutions to the prostates problem like medication, surgery and drugs, but i think being a responsible doctor we should not allow the patient to use such materials that can cause side effect.

I'm currently doing the Lupron injections ... 1 a month for 6 months. I had the laproscopy surgery 2 yrs ago and for 2 years felt like I had my life back! But sadly the immense pain returned . My OB recently put me on lupron. I'm getting ready for my 2nd shot.......... So far I have had hot flashes which have not been as bad as I thought they would thank goodness... SEVERE night sweats...... And a feeling like my bones ache from my hips down which also makes my muscles tighten.. Tiredness, but I also work a lot .......... Other than that though I am feeling sooooooooooo much better already... I went in and asked a lot of questions while considering Lupron and have a great obgyn doctor.I was also told that every woman's body deals with Lupron differently, some women have NO side effects............. Hope this helps...

i have had severe abdonminal pain including swollen ovaries, menstrual-like cramping (bad enough to make me want to scream my lungs out!) pain through my hips, lower back knotting up and shooting pains through my groin. have had a laparoscopy plus multiple ultrasounds, CT scans and x-rays for my back. only thing doctors know is bulging discs at L4 and L5 and 10 degree curvature of scoliosis in my spine. don't have endometriosis or fybroids as far as the doctors can tell. this has all happend since i had my first baby at 18 years old. she is now 18 months old and the pain has done nothing but gotten worse. doctors seem to not believe me. the epidural i had in the hospital severlely messed up my back. my spine ALWAYS hurts where the needle was injected. im at my wits end. i need advice from SOMEONE!! my OB dr, the guy who delivered my daughter, wants to put me on Lupron. my insurance has now approved it, but my dr didn't tell me really anything about it. now i know why since i looked it up online, the side effects are almost worse than the pain im in. but, if it will help i want to do it. on the other hand, im already emotional and get depressed easily. im going through a nasty court battle for my baby girl because her dad is very abusive, also my grandmother who raised me my whole life is about to go into the hospital for 3 months for her 3rd heart surgery, might now come out of it, im going through school and a lot of studying to get my GED and this is all happening while im supposed to be trying this new medication Lupron which is going to have horrible side effects on me. i don't know what to do!!!

I only remember some hot flashes once or twice during the two months before surgery, and maybe some emotional instability( I was very irritable over nothing). It didn't shrink the fibroids at all. get more feed back from here,

There were clearly many negatives associated with the drug Lupron but it should be noted that in a recent laparoscopy I had in March of this year it was confirmed, get more information from here:

I was treated with lupron injections for six months because of my endometriosis. I immediately had serious health issues with bone pain, chest pain and rising blood pressure. My doctor said these symptoms were unrelated, but they were certainly caused by lupron. I had this done in 2001. I am still suffering with debilitating bone pain and other fibromyalgia type symptoms 8 years later. Don't use lupron unless you have a life threatening condition. I now have a disabling condition and I am only 44 years old. I have been fighting with this since I was 36 years old.

I was treated with Lupron injections to help shrink my fibroids prior to surgery. I only remember some hot flashes once or twice during the two months before surgery, and maybe some emotional instability( I was very irritable over nothing). It didn't shrink the fibroids at all. I ended up having to have abdominal surgery anyway because my largest fibroid was too large to remove vaginally.
