Hi Adrienne! How did your scan go? I hope all is well. I'm so happy that your husband is delighted--that is great! And it's wonderful too that you are going to have so much help at home. I bet your 4 kids will argue over who gets to babysit their new little brother or sister. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Big hugs, Michelle

Hello Anonymous,
Welcome to EmpowHer! I'm so glad you found us and that you shared your joyous news with us! I would like to echo everyone else and say "congratulations!!!" This is wonderful news and I wish you an easy pregnancy.
I know many many women who had babies after 40. It's becoming more commonplace it seems as women wait to have children or have additional children after that age. Like others said, as long as you are under the care of a doctor and get good prenatal care, that is the important thing.
Is this your first baby? Whether it's your first or fifth or even more it's still exciting! I think your friends will be happy for you. And if anyone says anything negative to you just remember the replies here and know in your heart that this is a wonderful thing. Please keep us posted on how everything goes! Big hugs to you, Michelle

You are not too old at all!!! And congratulations!!
I'm so very happy for you. At 41, you have a lot to offer your baby that some younger parents don't. You've had more time to live your life. You have more accumulated knowledge and you understand that things don't always come easy. You may have more savings and more ability to plan ahead and provide for your baby than a younger parent would. And it's likely that you'll enjoy all the tiny moments even more because you know it was very possible that you wouldn't have those tiny moments, right?
My mom delivered the three of us at 31, 38 and 40. She says that having kids later in life kept her and my dad feeling young. (I imagine that when my sister and brother were toddlers 17 months apart, she felt more exhausted than young, however!)
As Alysia said, you do have a higher risk of complications because of what the doctors will bluntly call your "advanced age." And it may be that when you show up for parent-teacher conferences with your kindergartener that you feel a little old. But seriously, no one cares. Older moms are quite common these days.
Heck, Geena Davis just had twins at 52. You still have time for more!!!

Congratulations!
If this is your first pregnancy, you could be at higher risk for complications. Just make sure you communicate with your doctor, maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay as fit as possible. There are yoga and fitness exercises designed especially for pregnancy.
If this is not your first pregnancy, and you have carried to full term before, and you don't have any health impediments, you should fare well.
Who really cares what others think. Do YOU think you're too old? Obviously not, since you're happy about this. My mom had my sister at 40, and that sister had her son at 40.
Take good care of yourself and have a happy, healthy baby.
