havng had a coil removed 2 months ago i was told that i had bacteria vagionous i was put on a course of antibitiocs which have caused me to have thrush i was put on a course of oral medication which did not seem to touch it, so i went to the local clinic at the hospital where i saw a thrush specilist who told me to leave the oral tablets alone and use the pessaries instead, i took one last week the inside syptoms have subsided but the outside syptoms are still very saw should i take the next tablet or go back to the clinic, the doctor did say she would send the thrush sample to be cultured to find out if she is treating the right yeast infections, i would love to hear from anyone who can give me advice....

kirsty - I hope I'm understanding your questions correctly. First there's the bacterial vaginosis, a mild infection of the vagina which as you know is treated with antibiotics. It's not clear whether you took the full course of antibiotics or not. If the fully prescribed amount is not taken then the infection is not being treated.
Then there's the thrush, which can be caused by antibiotics and is a fungal infection of the mouth caused by an overgrowth of the yeast organism Candida albicans. The goal in treating thrush is to restore the normal balance of bacteria and yeast in the mouth. Treatments may include antifungal medication - this comes in different forms that include lozenges, tablets, or oral rinses, which you swish around your mouth and then swallow. Treatment may also include medications that are active against yeast such as Nystatin, Clotrimazole and Miconazole. A fungal infection can be tough to beat, so it may take some time.
I would suggest following up with the first doctor to find out what the culture showed so you can determine whether you need a full course of antibiotics and to make sure you get one if you do need that. You should also continue the treatment (pessaries) you were provided for thrush for the full course of treatment. Other things that you can do to help in healing include rinsing your mouth with warm salt water and gently scraping off patches with a toothbrush. If you continue to have problems after taking all of the prescribed medications then you will likely want to seek further assistance. Hope that helps!

maybe i wrote the wrong message but i do not have thrush in the mouth just vaginal thrush i did take the full course of antibiotics for the b.v. and was tested again and it came back clear, it is just the vaginal thrush that i am being treated for it seems that the internal symptoms have gone but the external symptoms are still very sore, should you need to take the whole course to get rid of all the symptoms. i did have thrush in the mouth from the antibiotics but was treated with nytasil which did clear it up.

Hi Kirsty
Sometimes if you have a bad case of vaginal thrush it can take a while for the rawness and discomfort to go away, but if you still have the discharge or the symptoms are not improving a bit by today I suggest contacting your health care provider about doing another course of treatment. I know with the over the counter metronidazole treatments sometimes the one day or three day does not resolve symptoms for women as well as the seven day treatment.
I hope this helps you. Those infections are miserable.
