Dr. Gore recalls the food and beverages with the most harmful effects on your teeth.
Dr. Gore:
In terms of bad foods, if you want to call them, the most inappropriate foods or those type of foods that have a lot of sugar content, but beyond that is actually the food that sticks around, like the gooey, caramel, toffee type of food that actually sticks to the deep grooves and crevices of the tooth. That’s where we see problems, especially in the kids.
The beverages that typically people have problems with staining of teeth, for example, ice tea – very popular drink in Arizona, red wines, many adults like to enjoy the red wine; coffee is certainly another drink that people partake. Any type of beverage that has the dark coloring to it, it’s very common that it will stain the teeth and have a lasting effect on the discoloration of teeth.
One of the things that can help people to prevent some of the stain that occurs from the tea and coffee and the red wine is to actually drink those beverages through a straw. A straw actually will help reduce the amount of staining that occurs from the beverage itself.
