New Chocolate Spray – All the Taste and None of the Guilt

Rate This

A genius scientist has successfully developed the means of satisfying that often debilitating chocolate craving without the calories or the guilt. Launched in January 2010 in Paris, it is a shot of pure chocolate that you spray into your mouth and it comes in an attractive lipstick-style container, that's both biodegradable and organic.

It is believed that half of the women in the United States are on a diet on any given day. This handy pocket-size spray has the potential to be a new revolutionary tool for dieting by tricking your brain into thinking you just indulged in a chocolate bar.

“Le Whif” was invented by David Edwards, a Harvard professor of engineering and applied sciences, who is also the brains behind ArtScience Labs, an international network of art and design labs.

With less than a calorie (of which you could probably burn off just getting it up to your mouth), Edwards believes that this is just the beginning of breathable food.

“Le Whif uses particle engineering to form chocolate in particle sizes that are small enough to become airborne though too large to enter the lungs,” explained Edwards. “When you breathe the chocolate into your mouth, it dissolves immediately and coats the tongue and taste buds.”

He explained that it only takes the smallest amount of chocolate to satisfy your taste buds. His new concept is that we can breathe, rather than eat, chocolate and curb our appetites. “With Le Whif,” said Edwards, “we inhale food into our mouths and taste it without chewing, to get an experience of the flavor without eating a single calorie.”

Le Whif has expanded to include raspberry chocolate, pure chocolate and chocolate mint. As of March this year a new coffee version was available in cafes around the Harvard University campus, with all the “kick of coffee without the cup.”

Chocolate contains natural opiates, including theobromine, that elevates the pleasure senses in your brain. With over 500 natural chemicals in chocolate it enhances your feeling of happiness, which is often the reason we crave chocolate and feel, albeit temporarily, satisfied.

This is definitely one for the chocoholics, or possibly a good stop-gap between chocolate bars! It isn't cheap though at approximately $2.30 for about eight doses, but if it helps you stick to a diet then it's more than worth it.

Yeah, seriously, lighten up. That article was simply introducing a product, a candy product. She never equated the craving for chocolate to the addiction to alcohol.

I think people with your attitude must make/find it difficult to succeed in fighting real addictions. I mean, being a victim all the time....

So chocoholism is a disease now?

What a disgusting idea that insults and offends all those who have suffered alcoholism and the families who have suffered around the alcoholic in their midst.

Are you honestly trying to suggest that people are completely unable to resist making disgusting pigs out of themselves with their chocolate consumption? Are you suggesting that they will actually go through physical withdrawals? Are you suggesting that they will physically and emotionally abuse people around them as a result of their indulgence in chocolate?

Pippa - I find this column deeply offensive and poorly thought through. You might feel it OK to make light of alcoholism and similar addictions and that, frankly only serves to indicate your lack of empathy and maturity in this matter. I sincerely hope that you re-think this article and re-consider whether you are actually qualified enough to write professionally.
Not clever, not funny. You should be ashamed.

It was actually very clever and interesting. I think, Miriam, that you need to stop taking your problems out on other people. It is not anyone else's job to walk on eggshells because you have a problem. Also, a common misconception of recovering from alcoholism is that you need to point fingers at all the wrong everyone else is doing. You need to pull your head out of you-know-where. Lighten up.
Many women all over get intense chocolate cravings. It's known all over the world. If you don't like what someone has written, you should take your negativity elsewhere. You're pathetic.
