Faster than you could get on your stirrup pants, Rebook Pumps, and load your favorite boy band album into your personal CD player, I have brought back some memories of fitness in the 90s. Fitness trends from that time continue to supply flashbacks, a few chuckles and inspiration for healthy living.

It was developed by taekwondo practitioner Billy Blanks. It was one of the first cardio-boxing programs to enjoy commercial success. The high-intensity workout is intended to increase cardiovascular fitness, strength, muscular endurance and flexiblity. I never bought any of the tapes but the popularity of this workout got me started with kickboxing classes at the gym. Kickboxing is both challenging and addicting. I continue to love the way this workout gives me a feeling of strength and a sense of accomplishment.
Intriguing and scary, the boot camp workout is just like it sounds. It's intense and demands the most dedicated participant to produce results. It is designed for those that are not afraid of a challenge and ready to work. These classes have become so popular that they have some specifically designed for women that are struggling with post-pregnancy weight loss, sometimes appropriately titled, Hot Mommy Boot Camp.
Ah, the Soloflex infomercials. My fingers couldn’t dial the number fast enough to keep up with my hormones. My friends and I received the brochures every few weeks just to stare at that hunky guy that advertised this at-home fitness system. I didn’t buy the product but I sure knew the name.
Cindy Crawford’s Workout
In the 90s, I credit my 15 pound weight loss to Cindy Crawford’s “Shape Your Body Workout” VHS video. To this day, each time I hear Seal’s song, "Crazy," I nearly break into back leg extensions. I mimicked the beautiful supermodel as she worked her already perfect body. The exercises and changing my eating habits paid off and before I knew it, I had lost weight. Within months, I had succeeded in a healthy weight loss program and I felt great.
