Phoenix Mercury strength & conditioning coach Ben Hadley discusses ways to lift weights to tone muscle without getting too bulky.

Ben Hadley:
Women are sometimes intimidated by lifting weights. They are afraid that they might get too big or too bulky. Let me tell you the difference between bulk lifting and toning. Bulk lifting is typically high weight, low repetitions, but long rest periods. Toning is typically low weight, high repetitions and short rest periods. So ladies, if you are looking to get toned, what you want to do is lift light weight, do high repetitions and shorten your rest periods.
