Arachnoid Cyst Support Group Join this Group

Welcome

Hi everyone....I want to say hello to everyone and say that I am glad there is a support group started. When I originally started this following on EmpowHer, I never dreamt there would be so many people dealing with brain cysts.

So many medical problems have support groups and I know that those with arachnoid brain cysts need a means of support. As with many and most medical conditions, it isn't always easy to find answers, so here, at least you may be able to get some of your questions answered and get the support of others who live with and have had one form of treatment or another for their brain cyst. I am always happy to answer any questions that I can. After living with mine for 7 years, going through 2 brain surgeries and living with a shunt for 7 years, I hope to help others. I also hope to help many with my book - my story that will be out this October...."It's all in Your Head."
If there is ever anything I can help with or offer an answer, I will be glad to.

Hi wildtiger,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  So sorry to hear how you are feeling. The need for treatment depends mostly upon the location and size of the cyst. If the cyst is small, not disturbing surrounding tissue, and not causing symptoms, some doctors will refrain from treatment. In the past, doctors placed shunts in the cyst to drain its fluid. Now with microneurosurgical techniques and endoscopic tools that allow for minimally invasive surgery, more doctors are opting to surgically remove the membranes of the cyst or open the cyst so its fluid can drain into the cerebrospinal fluid and be absorbed. It might be good to get a second opinion on this and perhap from a specialist.

Hi!!! My Name is Cheyenne. I have Multiple Sclerosis and also have a posterior fossa arachnoid cyst on my brain. The doctors found the cyst during an MRI checking on how my M.S. was doing. That was back in 1994. I have been to multiple doctors about the cyst and I keep telling them that just can't be sitting there doing nothing. It is NOW December 2011. My eyesight is going, I have sinusitis, heart and breathing problems, disoriented at times. (doing something then all of a sudden forgetting what I am doing) Headaches, nausea, body temp. problems. Lets just say everything but the seizures is wrong with me. Don't know what else to do. I am all alone no family close and no friends that would help me.
