Okay, I'll start.... with mostly questions. I'm 56, and have been skinny, athletic and healthy all my life until about ten years ago when the fibromyalgia introduced itself. Add that to menopause, and my metabolism has flipped out! My eating habits have always been atrocious, and I was eating almost nothing, yet gaining weight. The insulin-resistance diagnosis this year shocked me, and I'm still trying to figure out what I need to change to be able to lose weight and be more healthy. I have a high-stress job, live alone, and am reeling from new RA diagnosis this week. I keep trying to eat regularly, 5-6 times a day instead of just at night, or nothing at all,but within just a few days I just fall back into the familiar habits I've always had. I know I'm engaged in the same struggle a lot of other women are, and just want to share experiences and hope.

Hello everyone,
I was diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome two years ago. It is, as my doctor claims, because I'm short, overweight and shaped like an apple. (like that's a bad thing or something.....!) I've taken up bike riding. We live in a rural river valley so the roads are rife with slight hills, heart attack inducing inclines, and child like rides going fast as I can downhill. The exercise is key to reducing your blood sugar! Portion control is also paramount. Too often we pour salad dressing on a healthy salad and discount portion control.
