UTI and IC - I need help with a holistic approach

By February 25, 2011 - 1:03pm

Hello,
I'm posting this here because I browsed the groups and didn't find anything else relevant, so, please feel free to either move this to another group or tell me where to post, unless it's ok to post this here. I'm doing my best to treat a UTI and IC holistically and I'm following a regimen guideline that has a list of natural remedies that I need to take. The problem is that I'm getting mixed messages. According to the UTI report, I need to take a cranberry tablet with an 8oz glass of water and I need to take organic apple cider vinegar, both of which I have and take daily. I don't recall where I read the post, but someone posted a comment saying that they followed a regimen and took cranberry and then painfully discovered that cranberry is a trigger for IC = interstitial cystitis, and they were in horrible pain. I also read that tomatoes are a trigger, though I've also read that they're a healthy food. I find this very frustrating and discouraging and I'm not sure what to do. I need to follow this regimen and clear out the UTI and heal and stay well, but it's going to be difficult to do this if I keep reading conflicting messages. I'm told chocolate is a trigger and to be honest, I'm not upset that I have to eliminate it because I've never had a sweet tooth or enjoyed chocolate much and I still don't, so, I'm not missing much or feeling deprived. I've always enjoyed and preferred salty foods and I still do. i also don't drink anything with caffeine and I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I'm a very healthy woman and I'm blessed and grateful, but I need to get on the road to good health and wellness. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this and help me. Thank you for listening. Oh and please understand that I'm on my period and my attention span is kinda slow, so, I prefer short-winded replies, similar to this. A paragraph or 2 is fine. Thank you for understanding. :-)

For urinary tract infections, I drink barley water. I just get barley from the supermarket (preferably organic), put about 3/4 cup barley into 2 quarts of water and simmer on the stovetop until the barley is soft enough to eat. Then I drink the water. I put a little salt in the barley and eat that too. Making barley mushroom soup is a good way to enjoy this cure. I also drink lots of water to flush my system out. If after 2 days this doesn't work, I get antibiotics from my doctor. However, if your UTI is painful, lasted for a while, or creating other problems (like a fever), get medical help immediately. (I'm no doctor.)
By the way, what is a IC?

Sometimes I think there is SO much info we can become overwhelmed and stop hearing own inner knowledge. I suggest (to follow the Body/Mind/Spirit thread!) practice some meditation/inner time whatever you want to call it, access that inner voice. Learn to discriminate between what you Know and what you recognize as knowing, and let go that which is not relevant to you.
• write or draw, balance exercise with creative time.
• seek out a group (in person or on the net) with your specific condition and share with them.\
Good luck!

Description

Who we are and how we Be in the world, has a direct impact on how we handle our health and wellness issues. Any real experience of our health encompasses the trilogy - the physical aspects, how we think about it, and that intangible 'other' that gives us grace and gets us through. This applies to mental and physical health equally. if we can cultivate our spiritual aspect of the triad, it will be there when we most need it, as we face our own aging and illness as well as when assisting others. This group is here to share resources and avenues to connecting the three, most particularly to embracing and articulating our personal appreciation of Spirit. This group does not advocate for any particular brand of spiritual practice or religion. Simply by sharing your stories, pointing us toward books, articles, poems, art, workshops, or other expressions of Spirit and health you will contribute to each individual's personal journey.
