5 Weird Migraine Triggers You Might Not Know

By June 21, 2022 - 2:45am

A migraine is a headache that usually affects one side of the head and causes extreme throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation. It's commonly accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and excessive light and sound sensitivity. Migraine attacks can last anywhere from hours to days, and the pain might be severe enough to prevent you from going about your usual activities.

A warning sensation known as an aura arises before or with the headache for some people. Visual disturbances, such as flashes of light or blind patches, or other disturbances, such as tingling on one side of the face, arm, or leg, and difficulty speaking, can all be signs of an aura.

It's sometimes difficult to pinpoint migraine triggers. The disease is unpredictably unpredictable, and the triggers may shift over time. Making fundamental judgments can be exhausting when there is so much uncertainty. Any food you eat or activity you choose to participate in carries the risk of triggering a migraine attack.

It's aggravating. Triggers are frequently illogical! They can be weird and unpredictable. It's also possible that the tiniest, most specific item triggers a migraine that's been building for days. Migraine sufferers are never sure what to expect. Here are some of unusual migraine triggers:

Pressure Changes
Many people are affected by fluctuations in barometric pressure, which can be uncomfortable. This is one of the most powerful triggers, and it is something that no one can control. It's like if you're on a plane that's going through a lot of turbulence.

A migraine could be on the way if you learn that the temperature outside is about to decrease or rise dramatically. People can sometimes sense the pressure shift ahead of time.

Light
It is painful to be exposed to light. It pierces the eyes and stings the brain, whether it's sunlight or interior lights. Fluorescent illumination (the type seen in most offices, doctor's offices, and hospitals) is the worst. It's excruciatingly painful.

Any flashing light must also be avoided at all costs. It makes the head throb, and it's sometimes what pushes a migraine from early prodrome to full-fledged attack.

When attending a concert or viewing a movie and things get flashy, those with migraines should protect their eyes. The same restriction applies to any moving vehicle with flashing lights that they may come across.

Many migraine sufferers require as much darkness as possible in any room they are in. They frequently choose gloomy, dismal days because their heads feel better in those situations.

Scented Products
Perfume isn't the only thing that might cause migraine headaches; any scented skin care or beauty products can also be a trigger. All perfumed shampoos, lotions, soaps, and body scrubs, for example, are prohibited. As a result, strive to operate in scent-free environments and stay away from the perfume department of any store or shopping center.

Physical Activity
For many migraine sufferers, any physical activity that raises their pulse rate or requires fast movement is difficult. It may be inconvenient, but it's best to skip cardio altogether if you want to lessen migraine symptoms.

Nothing At All
It's the reality. Migraines can strike for no apparent reason at times. You can still get a migraine episode even if you avoid all of your known risks, eat well, and get plenty of sleep. It feels absolutely out of control most of the time.

The Bottom Line
Although it might be difficult to have a positive attitude when suffering from migraines, try to be on the lookout for new techniques or tricks that can help you gain control over your condition.

Though you may not be able to go a day without suffering migraine symptoms, you can still make your episodes more manageable by making some lifestyle changes.
