What is the difference between air purifier and air humidifier?
It is clear that the air purifier and humidifier are devices whose purpose is to clean the air. However, the resemblance between the two devices ends there since they have a very different mode of operation.
The main role of the air purifier is to remove chemical or microbiological pollutants that are present in the air. Air purifiers consist of two elements which are: the fan and the filter surface. Depending on the filtration technology used, the performance of the air purifier may vary. In most purifiers, ambient air passes through the unit. During this passage, the pollutants contained in the air are trapped by the filter, which allows clean air to be then returned to the room. Unlike the humidifier, the air purifier does not add anything to the air it returns to the room.
As far as the air humidifier is concerned, its role is simply to add water to the surrounding air. The humidifier does not clean the air. It boils water which it then turns into steam which is released into the air. To do this, humidifiers use several technologies. Ultrasonic technology allows the humidifier to turn water into vapor by vibrating water droplets. It should be noted in the case of ultrasonic humidifiers that it is advisable to use distilled water rather than tap water to operate the device. It is believed that tap water contains mineral particles that can be introduced into the air during the operation of the humidifier. The effects of these mineral particles are not well known, but some research suggests that these particles may have effects on lung tissue.
