Todd Hartley made a name for himself hosting Phoenix talk radio shows, but his latest gig may have saved his life.

The 36-year-old now works as Director of Community, News and Marketing for EmpowHer, a Phoenix-based Web site billed as the “Internet's first multimedia medical encyclopedia for women.”

Hartley's duties since May included interviewing top doctors nationally about various medical conditions impacting women. The videos are posted on the site, which launched last month.

He started noticing it felt as if he had butterflies in his chest, he had a difficult time sleeping and his heart was racing. When he sat down with various nationally known heart doctors, he asked what woman experiencing similar symptoms should do.

He was told such a patient should get to get to a doctor ASAP.

Hartley did that and was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, an electrical misfire that occurs in the heart. He now takes medication and the condition is being monitored. "It's a good thing I pay attention while I'm working," he said.
