Dr. Goldberg shares how heart disease is diagnosed and what the major risk factors for heart disease include.
Heart disease, if you talk about coronary artery disease which is the blocked arteries and the cause of the heart attacks most women have in our country, it's caused by having risk factors. There are risk factors that cause the heart disease like family history, if you have a mom who is less than 65 or a dad who is less than 50 when he or she had their first symptoms, that increases your risk by about 25%.
If you have high cholesterol, if you’re a smoker, diabetic, don’t exercise or obese’ those are all risk factors that contribute to having a heart attack.
