Sandra introduces herself and recalls the PMS symptoms she lives with.
I am Sandra. I have PMS. I have realized I have had PMS only in the last few years of my life.
I have been on birth control pills since I was 18 years old so I had a regulated cycle and I would have symptoms of PMS, but I really didn’t think that I had that. The term is so loosely used in our society to describe a difficult woman I thought that that wasn’t me.
And then I had my children, and I breast-fed, and my hormones did a number on me. And I haven’t had hormones since I have finished breastfeeding my baby, and PMS has really been a bearer since then.
Some of my symptoms that I typically have that I know I am three to four days out of my cycle starting is, the first one is paranoia. And when I say paranoia, I mean I start thinking nobody likes me, and the people down the hall are talking about me, and that meeting is about me, and I did something wrong. So it can really do a number on your self-esteem and your relationships that you have with your friends even, because you think your friends don’t like you at that time.
Other symptoms I have are difficulty sleeping and also, night sweats for a few days up until then. Cravings are crazy. I could consider myself almost to the point of wanting to binge eat, and also I think that has to do a lot with lack of sleep, and then I also have menstrual migraines. I will get a migraine once usually in that three or four days right before my period.
