No sex or relationship question is too embarrassing because it’s time to ask EmpowHer’s sexuality expert – Dr. Marty Klein, anything.

“If money is the main thing couples argue about, how do healthy marriages manage their finances?”

Dr. Marty Klein:
Well, now wait a second! Who said that money was the main thing that couples argue about? The main thing that couples argue about is five things and those five things are – money, sex, religion, parenting, and in-laws. And then the sixth thing that couples argue about is everything else.

So there are lots of things that couples quarrel about, and money is certainly one of them. But it’s certainly not the only thing, and for a lot of couples, it’s not even the main thing. And there are some couples who have tons of money and they quarrel about money, and then there are other couples who have very little money or have a lot of financial problems, and they don’t quarrel, which is kind of interesting.

So I think the main thing that couples need around money is an agreement on what their values are, and an agreement on what their goals are, and a way to talk about money when people disagree. And if you have those three things, I think you will be in good shape, whether you have a lot of money or not.
