No sex or relationship question is too embarrassing because it’s time to ask EmpowHer’s sexuality expert – Dr. Marty Klein, anything.

Dr. Klein, why do men cheat?

Dr. Marty Klein:
Why do men cheat? Well, I think the question really is why do people cheat, and that’s not even the right question. The question is why did one particular person in your life cheat, or several people in your life, why did they cheat?

And the answer is, different people cheat for different reasons. Some of them cheat because they are angry; some of them cheat because they feel sad and lonely; some of them cheat because they didn’t want to agree to monogamy in the first place; some of them cheat because you cheated or they think you cheated; some of them cheat because they are trying to get out of the relationship and they don’t know how else to do it, and some of them cheat because they hope that it’s going to improve the sex in the relationship - kind of a funny idea. but some people do that.

So I don’t think there’s one answer for why anybody cheats or why any group of people cheat. I think the real question is why does a particular person in your life cheat, and you can always ask them, and sometimes they will actually tell you the truth and sometimes not. Sometimes they know, and sometimes people don’t even know.

As you may know from reading our wonderful website here, I generally don’t give answers about why all people do something or why all men do something. I think you are much better off trying to understand the person or people that you have been with rather than trying to understand half the human race.
