I've had difficulty with weight since my teen years...I would roller coaster up and down. I was put on thyroid at the age of 16 and from the age of 20 - 30 had 9 ovarian cyst removals before having a hysterectomy at the age of 31. I would go through long bouts of fatigue, headaches and nausea for what appeared no reason. I went through several sugar tests over the years to check on diabetes. It always came back that I was hypo-hypoglycemic. I would refuse to go to the doctors when I became ill because I didn't want them to say they all my vital signs and blood tests were fine, it must be psychological. I'm a psycho-therapist...I new it wasn't psychological. I finally went to a doctor who also practices homeopathic medicine. He put me through a series of new blood tests saying that the glucose test is not the best way to determine diabetes. My tests came back positive for type 2 diabetes. I did produce a small amount of insulin, but it didn't work properly. I was then put on Metformin. What a difference. It equalized my sugar, I dropped weight and the only time I get symptoms like I had before is when I forget my pill. After my diagnosis, I read more and more about diabetes. I was astounded to see that I had all the criteria for diabetes since I was in my teens. I was also angry that it took over 40 years to find out the problem. I still have difficulties with doctors and don't trust them. I'm a huge advocate for women, especially, to take control of their health. Women have a much better grasp on what is going on in their bodies.
