Nurse Dougherty shares what the Banner's MAPS (memory assistance and planning service) is and how it can help Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers.
Nurse Dougherty:
Well we put together MAPS, which stands for Memory Assistance and Planning Series because we know that Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias typically last from 8 to 10 years and over that course of time there’s many twists and turns and families often don’t know how to navigate through a system of care, how to plan and anticipate what’s next, and so this class called MAPS is been put together to help caregivers understand the disease, learn how to live successfully with the disease, how to do everything from planning activities for a person that’s affected by Alzheimer’s disease, how to communicate more effectively, how to diffuse difficult behaviors and know how to get practical assistance when they need it.
