Dr. Andrew Atiemo deals with people's hearts and sees the effects of stress on those hearts all the time. Stress raises blood pressure. It causes us to eat less, or to eat more than is good for us. People will smoke or drink more when under stress. In some situations of emotional stress, a patient may experience stress cardiomyopathy which looks like a heart attack. Some tests will even confirm that it's a heart attack.
Dr. Atiemo says that stress is such an important consideration for the heart that clinicians should be encouraging their patients to develop better management of the stress in their lives.
"Dr. Atiemo is a cardiologist on staff at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, AZ. After completing his medical education at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Atiemo trained in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital. His passion for cardiology lead him to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where he trained in general cardiology and interventional cardiology."
