Q:

Is 45 too old to have a baby??

I'm recently married and my new husband and I have started talking about having a baby together. Not right away, but maybe we'd start trying in the next year or two. I have a couple of teenagers from my previous marriage and this is his first marriage (no kids). The problem is timing - we're not getting any younger!! We're both in our 40's - I'll be turning 45 later this year, and when I had my last baby at age 31, I thought I was totally done having kids. I never would have dreamed I'd even be thinking about another baby, but of course I never ever dreamed I'd get divorced and then remarried.

My question to other moms out there is what your opinion is on having a baby later in life. I'd love to know ALL your feelings on this. At the moment, I'm so enjoying my teenagers and love the fact that they're each becoming so independent and that we can do so many fun things together. I love my independence as well, and how much easier this part of my life is. As much as I'd love to have a baby with my husband at some point, I'm wondering if adding a new baby into the mix would be completely insane at this "middle-aged" stage of the game. What do you think? I could sure use some advice!

If you have a regular 26 day cycle, you should ovulate on day 13 or 14. Watch for sticky clear vaginal discharge. I never really paid attention to it until I was trying to get pregnant and then it was super easy to notice. When you see that have sex that day and for the next day or two. Also, have your husband's sperm count checked to make sure he isn't the issue. I had no luck with the ovulation test kits. Good luck.

I am not a mom.... Yet. I say hat as I am 46 yrs old and my husband & I are wanting a child of our own. He is 53. 2 grown children. I have kept telling myself I don't want children, but I keep thinking about what my child would look like. And how I would be as a mother. We actually had his son living with us for about 10 yrs when the boy was 15 and I was just 29. So it was a challenging time for all of us and frankly I think it scared my away from having my own. But now I really desire for a child of my own, with my hopes and dreams for a future plus I think my husband would be a good father , full time , seeing as he really did not get that time with his kids due to the divorce.....adoption is probably unlikely due to our age and other circumstances we can't change. I also highly hope that I can get pregnant on own, as ivf txs are $$$$ I am Sch an appt with Gyne dr. Will see how it goes from there. Wish us luck.

I had my ninth childe when I was 44, no complications. He is a strong healthy 14 year old now, and a blessing. I named him Adam, gift from God.

I am currently 45 and expecting a baby in May of 2014. I recently had a little boy in March 2013 and I have two older children both girls ages 24 & 16. I had many fertility problems after I had my 2nd child and was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. After years of seeing specialist we (my hubby & I) gave up as I hit the big 40. Miraculously my cycles started to come regularly again after age 42, however I was thinking that with my past hx, age, and likelihood of conceiving over 40 was not a reality. I took a pregnancy test one morning and I discovered that I was pregnant. My baby boy was born healthy at full term and I had no complications during my pregnancy. I didn't think that lightning would strike twice in a matter of 5 months but it did, now I find myself expecting again. I was a bit apprehensive at first as I was mostly concerned about what others would think, but then I thought to myself that this is the family that we should have had long ago and always wanted and God has saw fit to bless us with this miracle. We take care of our kids and are great parents. I feel glad that my little boy has someone to grow up with as my youngest will be going off to college after next year. Good luck to any over 40 Moms we rock!!!

You just inspired me! I'm 44 and my husband is 56. We have a beautiful 7 year old girl and we are longing for another to join her. We have not officially tried to have one but when I got pregnant with our first it was really easy…first try!
Thank you for the positive outlook on building a family!

I had 5 kids and divorced. I remarried and became pregnant at age 43. I was adamant that I didn't want any more children because of my age, but while on birth control I became pregnant with baby #6. I am completely blown away at how quickly he took ownership of my heart. I am absolutely IN LOVE with this little guy, he turns a year in a couple days and I have been trying to get pregnant again so that he can have a little play mate. I am now 44 and my husband is 56 and I just found out today that I am expecting again. I am due on my 45th birthday. This might sound crazy but I thoroughly enjoy being a mom again at my age!!!

Love this story! I am 44 and my youngest just turned 9 months. I was a little apprehensive learning I was pregnant at 43, but I had no complications and delivered a healthy, full-term baby boy. He's wonderful! There are 4 others, ages 23, 20 & 14 year old twins. Call me crazy, but I think I want to do it ONE more time ... so the baby has a sibling to grow up with.

44 is the new 20something!

I am 44 and just found out i am 7 weeks pregant, i had a unterine ablasion five years ago and they told me i was starting pre- menapause begiining of this year. This is a huge shock, but i believe it is a gift from god. I have four other great kids youngest being 13. I am concerned about having a healthy baby on this go around. This blog helped me realize that there are many women out there having babys over 40 and those babies are healthy!!

My prayers and meditations are with you for his already manifested healthy lovely pregnancy, delivery, and re-induction into our sorority known as motherhood ; )!
