My 45 yr old son has problems sleeping, he will nod off in the midst of talking to someone, when he holds an object in his right hand it invariably drops to the floor. He has pitted edema and is trying his hardest to lose weight via exercise and eating properly. He is 6 2 in tall and weighs 280lbs. He goes to the sleep clinic and wears a cpac on his face. He holds the record for stopped breathing 35 times in 1 hr. Cannot get a dr to look further into this horrible problem. What kind of dr would you recommend?
I thank you sincerely for any help offered!

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Your son has the sleep disorder of sleep apnea and it's good he is using his c-pap. However, his cpap may not be working properly.
A good cpap will have an online sleep quality result every night - is he checking the quality of his sleep this way? If not, he should. If he has a beard, he should shave it as facial hair does interfere with how the cpap works. His apnea is severe but not as bad as it could be - some people can stop breathing 80-90 times per hour. However, he does need to look further into this.
When you say "he holds an object in his right hand it invariably drops to the floor" is this because he falls asleep or does this happen when he's awake?
He may need to see a neurologist.
Best,
Susan
