Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

I have experienced the same back pain and initially just thought it was old age. Turns out there was some truth to that. As we get older the type of mattress support we need changes as well.

How old is your mattress?  The average lifespan for a mattress is 5-7 years, but again it depends on the mattress.

Are you doing anything else that could be the reason for your lower back pain? Do you feel like you are getting good support from it?  Are you waking up in the morning in pain?  That may be a sign that it's time to go shopping.

It might be a good idea to go try out different mattresses when you are experiencing some back discomfort, to see if the different support relieves the pain. You mentioned your weight being a factor.  I would suggest doing a search on Google about body weight and weight distribution with regards to mattresses.

In addition to maybe getting a new mattress, I would suggest making an appointment with your doctor.

I hope this helps.

Be well,

~Gillette
