How does an imbalance of homones cause anxiety? I recently had cervical spine surgery and the day before my surgery I started my period....I have not had a period in over five years, I thought I was done after haveing gone through menapause. After my surgery I started feeling terrible emotionally. I have anxiety everyday and find it hard to get out of bed. Is this from a hormonal imbalance?

Anon - Anxiety is very common after a major surgery and what you're experiencing right now may be related to your cervical spine surgery. It is so common that some hospitals even provide post-surgical massages now to help patients recover. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Healthday/story?id=4509773&page=1
